His Values

In one of his speech, Jony Ive quotes Steve:

There’s lots of ways to be as a person. People express their deep appreciation in different ways. But one of the ways that I believe people express their appreciation to the rest of humanity is to make something wonderful and put it out there. And you never meet the people, you never shake their hands. You never hear their story or tell yours but somehow, in the act of making something with a great deal of care and love, something is transmitted there. And it’s a way of expressing to the rest of our species our deep appreciation.

I think this reply by Steve is something quite personal which he kept to himself, in contrast to this public answer he gave.

If you haven’t watch enough videos on Steve, this and this one will suffice.

On Pushing the Technology Window

Steve mentions about pushing the technology window at two different times: here and with the term ‘spring’ here. Don’t be dismissive about young Steve because of his behavior at the time as he also acquired Pixar in 1986.

Tangentially, if you push the window too early, you risk up not attracting customers. Or people might not believe in you, so they would hesitate to contribute.

Don’t Dwell on Your Success for Too Long; Go Make Something Else Wonderful

If you do something, and it turns out pretty good, then you should go do something else wonderful. Not dwell on it for too long.
